A newly formed Naples political action committee is lobbying for a referendum on February’s municipal ballot that would poll voters on the creation of a local ethics commission governing conduct for city officials.

Gov. Rick Scott was in Naples Monday to tout his eighth and final budget, one that includes $1.7 billion for environmental programs.
“This funding includes historic investments in our iconic springs, world-renowned Everglades, award-winning state parks and beautiful beaches, which is especially important following impacts by Hurricane Irma,” Scott said.

With its pristine beaches and beautiful sunsets, there's no denying Naples' appeal.
And it's no wonder the Naples area was named one of the happiest places in the country by National Geographic, Gallup and National Geographic Fellow Dan Buettner on Wednesday.

In recent years, as the technology becomes cheaper and more prevalent, an increasing number of people are installing solar panels on their homes in an effort to produce their own renewable energy at a fraction of the cost from their local energy provider.

When Hurricane Irma barreled toward Southwest Florida almost two weeks ago, thousands of residents fled north, clogging the state's highways. Thousands more flocked to shelters, causing schools and arenas to quickly swell to capacity. 

After Hurricane Irma cut the electricity to Southwest Florida, raw sewage flowed onto streets and into homes, and some residents contracted water-borne diseases, all because public utilities were not prepared to manage the massive, days-long power outage.
