WANT HIGHER ETHICS STANDARDS IN NAPLES GOVERNMENT?
“ETHICS NAPLES” NEEDS YOUR HELP!

If you are a Naples resident and registered voter in Naples — and are concerned about the need for the highest standards of integrity in the conduct of Naples government — “ETHICS NAPLES” needs your help.

Late last year CPN sponsored a public seminar in Naples — “Ethics: Issues and Perspectives” — featuring Joseph Centorino, Executive Director of the Miami-Dade Ethics Commission.  Centorino, a former state prosecutor with extensive experience in dealing with public corruption and ethics violations, gave CPN and meeting attendees his assessment of the then current Naples Ethics Code.  Centorino pointed out that the Naples Code lacked critical tools for ethics oversight, including the need for an independent ethics enforcement mechanism.

Following up on the Centorino critique, CPN joined with other Naples citizens and community organizations who have become concerned about the need for a stronger Code of Ethics for Naples. Our coalition is called “ETHICS NAPLES” (for details on who we are and why we need a stronger Ethics Code and ethics enforcement see ETHICS NAPLES website at www.ethicsnaples.org.)

Ethics Naples – assisted by ethics experts from other Florida cities — has prepared a Petition (enclosed with this e-mail) calling for a Citizen Referendum to be held on the February 6, 2018 City election — asking Naples voters to adopt a new Charter Amendment creating a strong Ethics Commission to draft a strong Ethics Code and provide a strong enforcement framework to enforce the Code.  The proposed Naples Charter Amendment is patterned after the Ethics Charter Amendments which have been successfully enacted in Jacksonville and Tallahassee.

But in order to have the new Charter Amendment referendum to be placed on the February 2018 ballot, state law requires us to support the Petition to put the Charter Amendment on the ballot with petition forms signed by at least 1500 registered Naples voters.  (To be safe we are shooting for 2000 signed petitions.)

Here is what You need to do to help get the Naples Ethics Charter Amendment on the February 2018 Ballot:

  • Make Sure You Are a Registered Voter in Naples. You can get information confirming your registration either from your Voter Information Card or from the Collier County Supervisor of Elections at https://www.colliervotes.com/Voter-Registration/Check-My-Registration-Status.

  • Print the enclosed two (2) page Petition on 2 separate sheets of paper.

  • Fill Out the requested information (blank spaces) on both pages of the two-page Petition and Sign the Petition

  • Print out the enclosed cover page and please give us your contact information (telephone and e-mail information) so that we can contact you to make any necessary corrections to make sure your form is complete and/or to provide you with updates.

  • Please mail the signed and filled-out originals of the two-page petition — and the cover page with your contact information to:

Ethics Naples
P.O. BOX 7249
NAPLES, FL 34101

  • Get your friends and neighbors (fellow Naples registered voters) to fill out, sign and send in the Petitions to Ethics Naples.

TO MAKE SURE WE GET THE CHARTER AMENDMENT ON THE BALLOT, ETHICS NAPLES NEEDS TO RECEIVE YOUR SIGNED PETITIONS BY NOVEMBER 10, 2017

Sincerely,
