Subject- August 23, 2022 Primary Election- City Of Naples Ballot Question Regarding City Manager Residency Requirement

Background:

The City of Naples Charter requires that the City Manager reside within the City. This is a provision going back many years. In recent years, however. the housing market has  changed dramatically and it has become very challenging for City employees to live within the City limits.

Currently the City Manager is the only City of Naples employee required to live in the City.

This amendment to the Charter will allow for the City Manager to also have the option of  living within unincorporated Collier County versus having to reside within the City limits.

Given how expensive housing has become within the city limits, allowing more housing options is very important for us to attract and retain the very best as our city manager.

Wording on the Ballot Question:

City Charter Amendment
City Manager may reside within unincorporated Collier County.

Shall the City of Naples Charter be amended to change the City Manager’s residency requirement to also allow residence within unincorporated Collier County, as well as within the City of Naples, while serving as City Manager ?
