POST-STORM UPDATES - OCTOBER 6, 2022

Utilities

The City lifted the Precautionary Boil Water Notice on Wednesday, October 5, 2022.

The City’s Water Treatment Plant and network of water distribution pipes continue to meet all water demands within the system, including higher-than-normal use from pressure washing, cleaning, etc.

Residents and businesses are reminded to contact the City Utilities Department at (239) 213-4745, if you observe any unauthorized use of fire hydrants.

Contractors who are in need of water to fill water trucks should contact the City Utilities Department at (239) 213-4745, to make arrangements to fill from a temporary water meter located outside of the Utilities Building at 380 Riverside Circle.

As of 5:00 PM today, 12% of the City is without power. Several sections of the city that had power previously restored may continue to experience periodic blackouts while FPL troubleshoots issues.

Multiple properties in the city sustained significant damage to customer-owned electrical equipment that was submerged by water, so FPL cannot energize the private property equipment until they are repaired or replaced.

FPL flyer regarding power to home - Our city team, in conjunction with the FPL team, has identified the properties that cannot be energized until equipment is inspected by electrical engineers to determine if they are operable, need to be repaired, or need to be replaced.

We were active in the field again today doing inspections and will continue to approve properties that are safe to energize.

Comcast Cable services continue coming back online.  Comcast has deployed additional teams to assist in local repairs.  Xfinity WiFi hotspots can be found at  Xfinity.com/wifi

Cell service also continues to improve.  Verizon installed a second mobile tower on Riverside Circle to complement the one near City Hall.

Roadways

All roads within the City are passable. Crews will continue to brush dried mud and run multiple street sweepers to pick up fine debris. These actions will continue until all roads are back to normal.

Storm basins continue to be cleaned. Only 1 intersection (Gulf Shore Blvd N. and Park Shore Dr.) remains dark with a temporary stop sign. 6 intersections are flashing, and all others are operable. Please continue to use care and watch for emergency crews.

Debris Removal

Debris removal trucks began full-scale operations on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 and collected the following debris volume:

  • Vegetative 264 cubic yards (6 truck loads)

  • Construction & Demolition (C&D) Debris – 3,000 cubic yards (60 truck loads)

Debris removal operations will continue to ramp up with additional trucks entering the City in the next several days. We ask for your patience.

Please continue to pay close attention to the instructions provided by the City regarding separating material into various piles (Horticulture, C&D - lumber, carpets, furniture), and White Goods (appliances – please empty).

We will make as many passes as we need to collect all the debris; please don’t feel hurried to set everything out at one time.  Debris Removal Information Safety, Security, and Curfew.
