Naples election 'an opportunity to change'

Every election cycle, conventional wisdom asks whether we are better off than we were in previous elections. So Naples, here we go:

Do you notice the "canyon" effect of more tall buildings, which are closer to the roads? Do you miss the open-air charm?

Do increased traffic and unnecessary roundabouts, which are clogged near U.S. 41 not allowing emergency vehicles through, frustrate you? Do you feel increased density and intensity is stressing our infrastructure?

Do you wonder why the city bears the burden of beach parking within the county? Or why city management hasn’t been more proactive in protecting our environment and water quality rather than so laggard that the state stepped in?

Should residents who pay 91 percent of the taxes have a voice? Do we have to create a petition for each issue for the City Council to listen to us?

Is attracting tourism put ahead of residents' quality of life? Should the city find better resident/development balance, rather than 100% approval of variances so developers can improve their returns on investments and circumvent our development codes?

On March 17 we have an opportunity to change our Naples establishment by electing a mayor and three city councilors. Do your research and find out who will be the voice of the residents. Hint: It’s not who's currently sitting on the council.
