When commercial development project applications go through the site plan review process both City Council and the public may or may not have visibility to those projects.  This depends upon whether there are requests by the petitioner to deviate from code or if interpretations of the project’s compliance with the codes are applied.

A special City Council meeting was held on September 20th where City Council approved a new  2023-24 Budget of $197 Million and to set the Millage Rate at 1.17.

With 32 items on City Council’s Priority Dashboard , Mayor Teresa Heitmann suggested the top 10 to provide transparency and support for residents’ interests.   Council agreed with the recommendations and offered additional input to a list that included:

Senate Bill 250 became law in June 2023 with its’ intent to assist hurricane relief efforts.  However, a certain provision renders null and void any and all local land use regulations passed since Hurricane Ian. Without clarification from the State this could very well preempt local ordinances specifically designed to build resiliency and provide other support of resident values and compliance with Comprehensive Plans.
